Narsimha Mantra, In the Hindu scriptures, Lord Narsimha is considered the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He appeared in the form of half man and half lion, with a human body and the face and claws of a lion. It is believed that Lord Narsimha always stays with his devotees to protect them. This incarnation of Lord Vishnu was taken to protect his devoted follower Prahlad from the demon king Hiranyakashipu, who was trying to harm him. Lord Vishnu incarnated as Narsimha on the 14th day of the bright fortnight in the month of Vaishakh. In Sanatan Dharma, Lord Narsimha is considered a fierce form of God. Worship of Lord Narsimha is of great importance in Hinduism. Special worship of Lord Narsimha should be done during the evening time, which is just before sunset, as this was when Lord Narsimha manifested. Chanting the mantras of Lord Narsimha during this time brings victory over enemies and relief from all problems. Story of Lord Narsimha According to mythological stories, the demon king Hiranyakashipu performed severe penance to please Lord Brahma and received a boon that no man or animal could kill him. He also asked for the condition that he should not die during the day or night, neither inside nor outside his house, neither on earth nor in the sky, and that no weapon could harm him. Lord Brahma granted this boon to Hiranyakashipu. Afterward, Hiranyakashipu started to believe that he was a god and began oppressing everyone. Hiranyakashipu's son, Prahlad, was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Despite Hiranyakashipu's efforts to stop his son from worshipping Vishnu, Prahlad continued his devotion. Even when Hiranyakashipu tried to kill his son, Prahlad remained unharmed. One day, Prahlad said that God is everywhere. Hiranyakashipu, in anger, challenged him, asking why his God was not visible in the pillar of his palace. He struck the pillar in anger, and suddenly, Lord Vishnu appeared as Lord Narsimha. He lifted Hiranyakashipu and brought him to the threshold of the palace. Lord Narsimha placed him on his lap, tore his chest with his claws, and protected Prahlad. Lord Narsimha killed Hiranyakashipu in such a way that it was neither inside nor outside the house. The time was dusk, which was neither day nor night. Lord Narsimha was neither fully human nor animal. He killed Hiranyakashipu by using his claws, without any weapons, fulfilling the conditions of the boon and protecting his devotee, Prahlad. How to Chant Shri Nrisimha Mantra The Shri Nrisimha Mantra should be chanted during the evening time, i.e., when the day is ending and before the night begins. Before starting the chanting, take a bath and wear clean clothes. Then, place the idol or picture of Lord Shri Nrisimha in the northeast direction (Ishan corner) on a yellow cloth. Lord Nrisimha is the furious form of Lord Vishnu. To calm his anger, offer sandalwood to him. Perform an abhishekam (ritual bathing) for Lord Nrisimha with milk, Panchamrit (a mixture of five ingredients), and water. Offer curd, butter, watermelon, sattu (roasted barley flour), and seasonal fruits to Lord Nrisimha.
